Julie Parker: "All About Silk explains silk fabrics and fibers from the consumer's point of view, written in plain English instead of confusing technical jargon. A detailed description of each fabric is illustrated with a real cloth example, right there on the same page, which clarifies in the simplest way what a charmeuse, douppioni, georgette, shantung or taffeta actually looks and feels like. Samples of 32 different fabrics are included. Each description is paired with a full-page checklist of fabric characteristics, covering everything from style, fit and garment suggestions to wearability, care and price.
With this book as your guide, you'll learn how to identify the main types of silk without asking sales clerks or reading labels. You'll learn how to use each fabric, how to recognize quality and how to spot a bargain.
All About Silk is packed with information about the different weaves, yarns and techniques used to make silk fabrics. It provides quick answers to hundreds of questions about an often confusing subject. Terms such as cultivated silk, pure silk, raw silk, spun silk and wild silk are clearly explained."

The British Museum Press: "A sumptuously illustrated survey of the production and significance of silk in China from prehistory to the present day.... Tracing the story of silk in China from its neolithic origins to the twentieth century, the author considers its relationship to the other decorative arts as well as the role of silk in Chinese history, trade, religion and literature. Drawing upon the most up-to-date archaeological evidence from other, less perishable media such as jades and bronzes as well as paintings, poems and other texts, this book brings together material hitherto available only in Chinese with recent acquisitions by public and private collections in the USA and Europe to illuminate the luxury of silk through the ages"

From this lovely book, only one edition was published. That's why it is very hard to find. We sell it much cheaper than normal since we found some copies in a bookshop in Thailand. The books are a bit over 10 years old and the edges of the removable cover are a tiny bit discolored. Otherwise they are in excellent condition.
Post Books: "Thai Silk affords a colourful and fascinating insight into a unique fabric that for centuries has been acclaimed the Queen of Textiles, by the wealthy, the powerful, the covetous and the humble. A traditional Thai handicraft that owes its origins to a tiny caterpillar, silk is renowned for its myriad uses. It graces the world's most beautiful women and makes sumptuous interior design schemes appear even more lavish. Behind it all is a history as rich and exotic as silk fibre itself."

Thames & Hudson: "Mary Schoeser's groundbreaking book presents a chronological survey of textiles around the world from prehistory to the present day, exploring how they are made, what they are made from, how they function in society, and the ways in which they are used and given meaning.
From the very earliest needles of twenty-five thousand years ago, to the 'techno textiles' of today, textiles have been fundamental to human existence - enjoyed, prized and valued by every culture. Silks from China, cottons from India, tapestries from Flanders, dyes from South America, the ravishing appeal of different weaves, colours and patterns was long the motivation for trade, the exchange of ideas, and sometimes even war.
World Textiles is the perfect introduction to this vast and fascinating subject, invaluable for makers, designers, textile and fashion professionals, collectors and students alike."

Thames & Hudson: "This is the definitive history of batik in Indonesia and its modern expression.
Batik is practised from China to West Africa, but it finds its supreme expression in Indonesia. No other cloth in Asia, perhaps in the whole world, contains so much symbolism and has so many meanings, expressed in its marvellous colours and designs and in the way it is made, folded and worn.
Richly illustrated throughout with hundreds of colour reproductions and scores of archive photographs, Batik explores in depth the origins of the batik tradition; regional differences; symbolism and motifs; modern influences and batik as costume and in art. An illustrated index of motifs and their meanings, a comprehensive listing of international batik collections, a glossary and a bibliography complete this authoritative yet accessible work."
